Frequently Asked Questions

This is a translation. In case of discrepancies, the German version prevails.

1. General

Who is DishWise for?

Anyone who loves cooking and wants to keep all their recipes in one place — home cooks, families, or shared households. No more scrolling through SEO-stuffed pages, just your recipes, clearly organized.

What was the motivation behind DishWise?

Three problems we experienced ourselves:

  1. Recipe chaos: Recipes scattered across dozens of websites, cookbooks, and handwritten notes. No single place to keep them all.
  2. Cooking stress: Scrolling through endless web pages with dirty hands to find the next step — frustrating.
  3. No digital family cookbook: No easy way to collect and maintain recipes together with your family.

Do you offer your own recipes?

No. DishWise is a home for your recipes with AI support. You bring the recipes — we take care of making them clear and cook-friendly.

2. Recipe Import

What sources can I import from?

You can import recipes from:

How long does an import take?

Usually between 10 and 20 seconds. Photos may take a bit longer.

Are recipes in other languages supported?

Yes. DishWise can import and process recipes in any language.

What problems can occur when importing from websites?

Some websites require a login, are behind a paywall, or block automated access. In these cases, DishWise cannot import the recipe directly. The app will show you a notice with instructions on how to import the recipe anyway.

How can I import recipes that don't work directly?

If an import fails — whether due to a paywall, login, or blocked access — you can use the PDF workaround:

  1. Open the recipe in your browser (and log in if needed).
  2. Use your browser's print function (or the share function on your phone).
  3. Save the page as a PDF.
  4. Share the PDF with DishWise using the share function.

The app also shows you these steps directly when an import fails due to a paywall.

Why are ingredients or steps missing from an imported recipe?

The AI extraction is very good, but not perfect. If something is missing or incorrect, you can report the issue using the "Something wrong?" button on the recipe page. Your feedback helps us continuously improve quality.

Can I edit recipes after importing?

An editing feature is not yet available. You can delete a faulty recipe and re-import it. Direct editing is being worked on.

3. Household & Sharing

How large can a household be?

A household can have up to 6 people: 1 owner and up to 5 members.

Can I belong to multiple households?

No. Each user belongs to exactly one household.

What do the owner and member roles mean?

The owner manages the household and can send invitations. Members can import recipes, cook, and save favorites.

How do invitation links work?

The owner creates an invitation link in the household settings. The link is valid for 30 days and can be shared with multiple people.

Why are there no cookbooks as a concept?

In the digital world, you don't need them. Search and filter functions find any recipe instantly — by category, diet, origin, or preparation time. That's faster and more flexible than any cookbook.

4. Cooking Mode

What is cooking mode?

Cooking mode displays your recipe as swipeable step-by-step cards. Each card shows only the ingredients you need for that specific step. The display stays on, and the dark design is ideal for the kitchen.

5. Search & Filters

How do I find recipes in my collection?

You have several options:

All filters can be combined freely.

6. Account & Sign-In

How do I sign in?

Via Google Sign-In (Android and iOS) or Sign in with Apple (iOS only). There is currently no email/password option.

Can I use DishWise without an account?

No. An account is required to save your recipes and sync them across devices.

How do I delete my account?

In the app under Profile Settings, or by email to privacy@dishwise.de. Deletion is irreversible — all recipes and data will be permanently removed. For more information, visit Delete Account.
